England’s leading man Ben Stokes spoke for an entire state of cricket lovers as??he summed up a unforgettable summer in five newspapers:”It has been a blast”
The sport has enjoyed its season since 2005, elbowing its way to some very first drawn Ashes show in 47 decades, from an historic World Cup triumph to the national conversation with a diet of spills and excitement.
Nobody has played a larger role in delivering minutes than Stokes. It was his one-handed’Superman’ grab at the World Cup curtain-raiser that captured the tournament going in fashion, his never-say-die innings that dragged the hosts back from the brink in the final and also his all-time classic bluff at Headingley which given the highlight of some hard-fought Evaluation effort against Australia.
Having spent in the eye of a storm, Stokes was finally able to kick back and share a beer with Australian competitions and his England team-mates as either side came together to kickstart a 2-2 draw at The dressing rooms.
“It has been a blast,” he said. “There’ve been some amazing highs and some moments I can hardly believe occurred, but they failed and I will always be able to remember what it was just like being out there in the middle once we won the World Cup or won at Headingley.
“It probably has not all sunk in yet, but at some stage I’ll have the ability to look back with pride at what we managed to attain as a one time team and a Test team this season.
“Earlier England had played a game this summer we knew we had the World Cup and the Ashes ahead of us and today we’re stood at the end as World Cup winners and with a drawn Ashes series.
“It hasn’t all been plain sailing because we had to dig out of a pit at the World Cup and then we had to encounter until the very last to get that trophy, but we got it.
“Exactly the exact same from the Ashes, we had to fight all the way to the end to have the draw but we have it and I think that is something we can be so proud of. When things got rough, we did not innovate, we stood tall towards the end and revealed the personality from our dressing room.”
He was excited to share the credit with colleagues, although stokes is still not able to go down as the figure in 2019’s athletic dramas.
He termed Stuart Broad’s persistent performances resulting in the Evaluation attack”heroic”, Rory Burns”amazing” because of his attempts at opener and said of emerging star Jofra Archer:”I do not think I’ve seen a talented bowler in my time.”
There was also a special tribute for Jack Leach, drafted in as spinner following Moeen Ali’s loss of shape. He managed 12 wickets, including two in two balls to complete the series on Sunday, but won the public’s hearts for his batting.
His one not outside at in a stand of 76 with Stokes will decrease in folklore, as will his habit of meticulously rubbing his eyeglasses between chunks.
“He has been the crowd favourite the whole summer,” Stokes said. “The entire nation fell in love with him.”
There were reports that Australia were taken together with his routine but they denied guy of the series Leach when he donned a set of glasses during parties in Old Trafford was being mocked by Steve Smith.
The pair posed for a picture since the teams secured evening.
“He came for me to let me know it was not about me personally. I was kind of hoping it had been,” Leach said of Smith. “I believed it was a good laugh. When the movie came from me recreating my first one, I was very embarrassed after Headingley.
“I think I deserved that, to be honest. That’s why we got a picture together after the game
Leach was able to talk about a joke out that would have changed the course of the series in Leeds with spinner Nathan Lyon, who fumbled an easy run.
“Nathan came over and said to me,’How many beers do you owe me?” I believe owe him a lot,” he smiled.
“When I was batting at the end and the crowd were all singing,’Stand up in the event that you love Jack Leach’. I thought,’What is happening?’ Sport is fickle and I guess you have to appreciate the great moments and not get too down about the bad moments.”
